Hi, I’m Casey – Dog Trainer & Behaviourist Based in North Yorkshire
Welcome! I’m Casey, a qualified dog trainer and behaviourist working in Thirsk and the surrounding areas. My goal is to help you and your dog live in harmony—building a relationship based on trust, understanding, and positive communication.
As a dog owner myself, I understand how important it is to find the right person to support you and your dog. That’s why I’ve included plenty of information about my background, approach, and values—so you can feel confident and reassured in your choice to work with me.
Why "Weird & Wonderful"?
I’ve always been obsessed with animals—especially the weird and wonderful ones—which inspired the name Weird & Wonderful Dog Training and Behaviour. Paired with a love for the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, starting this business felt like the perfect fit.
At home, I share my life with my two amazing dogs: Shelby, my kind and chaotic Border Collie, and Nessie, my sensitive, long-legged rescue. They’re joined by a one-eared rescue cat, a greedy tortoise, a leopard gecko, and a snake I’ve had since I was 12. You can meet them all here—they truly are the stars of the show and absolutely deserve their own page!
Where It All Began
My career in animal care began in the zoo industry, where I worked with a variety of unusual and exotic species after earning my degree. But it wasn’t long before I found myself drawn to working with dogs.
In 2018, I started my own pet services business, offering dog walking and general animal care. From there, I moved into the rescue world, working as a dog and cat caseworker for an amazing rescue centre in Cumbria. It was during this time that I discovered my true passion—dog training and behaviour.
Helping rescue dogs work through complex issues, overcome behavioural struggles, and find their forever homes was incredibly fulfilling. That experience led me to further study, alongside hands-on experience shadowing a professional behaviourist—and that’s how Weird & Wonderful Dog Training was born.
My Approach to Training
I use kind, reward-based training methods grounded in modern behavioural science. All of my techniques are positive, force-free, and designed to make training enjoyable for both you and your dog.
I will never use tools or approaches that cause pain, fear, or distress. Every dog is unique, and I tailor all training and behaviour support to suit your individual dog, your lifestyle, and your goals.
I’m committed to continuous professional development and staying up to date with the latest science in canine behaviour. You can view a full list of my qualifications here.
Let’s Work Together
Whether you’re facing behavioural challenges, need help with training, or just want to better understand your dog, I’m here to help. My aim is to give you the tools, support, and confidence to build a stronger bond with your dog and enjoy life together.
Got a question? Big or small—I’m always happy to chat dogs.
